Back with a bang...

What up...
I havent updated this in quite a while, but here is a NOT SORRY interview I did last month. They played syracuse this past sunday with MINDSET, BSS, GHOST SHIP, and a rad new band from Buffalo called REASON. I hope to do a REASON interview real soon as I loved their previous bands back in the day when I first got into the core.
Please check out my new band VIOLENT SIDE . We will have a 7" demo/ep available at the new years day show at the lost horizon out on REAPER RECORDS. I will be putting up the whole demo on myspace soon enough, so keep an eye out!
And now, the NOT SORRY interview! Thanks to John Twentyfive and his straightedge.

hi John. Tell me about NOT SORRY, moving out west and why you would leave the superior coast?
Whats up Dan K! First, moving out west was motivated by a few things. The main one being my girlfriend was coming out here for school. I figured I got nothing to lose, so did it. The last year has been probably the best year I've had in recent memory. As for it being inferior to the East Coast, I don't think the NW is really all that different from upstate NY.
As for Not Sorry, we're a straight edge hardcore band. I originally was on bass, but when we didn't have a singer I threw my hat in the ring and here we are. I think I'm doing a pretty decent job for being an older edgeman with no prior singing experience. You know, besides those couple of times I sang with Black SS. I don't remember the song though.

I just read the press release from LIFELINE about putting out the NS 7". are these going to be all new songs or some of the demo songs?
The 7" will in fact be the demo with 2 brand new songs. The 7" is called MOVING ON.

A question I've been pondering lately, and Ill value your opinion on this, is bands doing cover songs and putting them on their 7"s. I think it's cool on demos, but unless it's an all cover 7" I think it's kinda wack. Thoughts?
I think covers on releases has the potential to be very cool but overall is unnecessary. I agree that I like them on demo's, but it's rare that I find a cover that I needed to hear re-recorded by another band.

How is the straightedge scene in Seattle? Have you met Ron BROTHERHOOD in the pit yet?
Well, there isn't much of one really, though there are some very crucial edgemen and women in the northwest. As for actual Seattle bands, we're it I believe. Though we do have Keep It Clear and Cross Check from Vancouver, Rebuilt from outside of Seattle and a band called Losing Skin from Spokane. All awesome bands. I know for sure you'd dig Keep It Clear.

There was a Ron Brotherhood siting a few months back at the Cro-Mags show.

Remember our drive to play a show in toronto and you saw my one life crew cd? We had only recently met and Im wondering what went through your head? You did mention that you'd "pretend you didn't see it."
Hahaha, I remember that drive. I think Hit The Lights played with Modern Life is War? Anyway, I've never cared for OLC and my thought process probably went something like, "Ugh, that band is the worst. What kind of dude am I in a band with?" Haha. Come to find out, you are a righteous dude and playing in HTL was lots of fun.

On the same trip I remember a discussion about IN MY EYES. You preffered the first lp to the second, amirite? How crucial was that band?!
In My Eyes is and was a great band. Though I do prefer Nothing To Hide to The Difference Between. I didn't listen to the first record for a while and recently listened to it a bunch. It's way better than I remember it, but still think NTH is tops. Great Boston Straight Edge. Wish I could've seen Sweet Pete do some of those songs at the last Have Heart gig. Oh well.

NS is coming over the east coast this fall. Tell me the plans! I can't wait to pit for that tour!
We got asked to play that fest in PA called A Time We'll Remember. Financially, I'm sure it'll be a total bust for us, but we're using it as an opportunity to play Syracuse and see our friends. Hardcore isn't about money anyway right? So fuck it. We get to hang out with Baltimore heart throbs and crucial edgemen, Mindset, who are kind enough to drive us around all weekend. Our friend Aram from React! hooked us up with them. Plus we get to play with Black SS in Syracuse. I couldn't ask for a cooler weekend.

I didn't get the whole story, but I heard you used herbal remedies on a member of FORFEIT?
The Forfeit Crew rolled through the northwest a few months back. Their road dawg Dougy Fresh wasn't feelin' well due to copious amounts of pitting for the 'feit and gas station food. I work for a medicinal herb shop and they stopped in to say hi, as I couldn't make their show that night. Our store manager hooked him up with some herbals. Come to find out, he felt immensely better soon after that.

How's the vegan lifestyle treating you these days? I heard you don't use deoderant???
I know there used to be a vegan version of Dan K some years back. I didn't know you then, but I wish I had, haha. The vegan lifestyle is treating me great. My girlfriend and I do lots of cooking and there's tons of places to eat out here and awesome farmers markets everyday. Plus we have Mighty - O Donuts, the all vegan donut shop. There's also a vegan cafe called The Wayward which our crew frequents every Saturday morning for breakfast.

And you heard correctly. I don't use deodorant . . . wash regularly and eat a clean diet and oddly enough you don't stink. I have a bottle of some liquid stuff with essential oils that I use once a month, maybe. Other than that it's been years and years.

Give me some shouts and we'll end it!
Shout outs to Wyld Punx worldwide, Saturday morning breatkfast crew, Lifeline and Salad Days Records, React! Crew, the Legitimate Brotherhood, all of Seattle hardcore, Syracuse and Rochester hardcore, the Black SS Crew and of course the Straight Edge! PEACE!
